FAQs

Q?

My daughter wants to have a rhinoplasty. Can this be done on a teenager?

A.

Yes. If her face and nose are fully developed and there is a reason to want to change her facial appearance then we would consider the case.

Q?

I am a 58- year old female. Can I still have breast augmentation? My daughter is 22 years old. Can she have the procedure?

A.

There is no upper age limit to having breast surgery. If you are healthy and want to enhance your appearance then augmentation mammaplasty may be for you. You may be a candidate for a breast lift or a combined procedure lift and augmentation. We have operated on many women in their 50's and 60's. Make sure you are current on your screening mammogram or we can assist you in obtaining one.

We will evaluate the young female that arrives for an evaluation. It is recommended that the patient obtain the age of 22 years before silicone gel implants are placed.

Q?

I am a male and my breasts are too large. Can you reduce them?

A.

Yes. This condition may be Gynecomastia (male breast enlargement). Certain medications and drugs have been show to cause this condition. Steroids have been implicated. A combined procedure of excision and liposuction generally works the best. A real significant improvement can be expected. The areola (pigmented area) can be reduced as well.

If you think you have this condition- Here are the signs:

You will not take you shirt off at the beach. You have pain and lumpiness of the breasts. You breasts are actually projected and appear like a female's breasts.

Q?

I’m near my ideal body weight yet I still have a fatty area that won’t go away. Is liposuction for me?

A.

Even if you exercise and eat right women tend to have fatty hips and thighs. Men tend to have the fat located on the lower abdomen and flanks. Liposuction is a procedure where fat is suctioned out of the body. This skin then redrapes to provide an improved contour and body shape. Inches can be removed from the waist and hips. We now offer the technique of POWER ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION.

Q?

My tummy skin is loose and my muscles are weak after having children. What can be done for this?

A.

After having children your abdominal wall skin will be stretched and the muscles are loose and out of tone. If this sounds like your problem...we have the solution. A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty will tighten the rectus muscles of the abdominal wall and eliminate the extra loose skin of the abdominal wall. You will soon be able to fit into your favorite pair of jeans!

Q?

Where can I find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon?

A.

You just did. Here at the Palm Harbor Plastic Surgery Centre, we are Board Certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. This is the Board that is important when you choose a Plastic Surgeon. Not all "Plastic Surgeons" are certified by this Board. Also you should look for the ASPS symbol which designates surgeons who are Active members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. They are dedicated to the highest standards of patient welfare and surgical excellence. For more information call (847)228-9900 or find them at ASPS.

Q?

Why doesn’t insurance pay for Plastic Surgical procedures?

A.

By definition Cosmetic Surgery is a procedure performed on a normal structure or part of the body. When cosmetic surgery is done, it is to improve or enhance that structure. These procedures are never covered by insurance policies. Reconstructive Surgery is done to restore or repair a structure or body part. Any time an injury occurs or a structure is removed due to cancer, the reconstruction is covered by insurance. We always send a precertification to your insurance carrier to verify coverage in advance. Certain procedures such as breast reduction or eyelid ptosis correction may be covered by your insurance carrier.

Q?

Who is a candidate for Botox?

A.

Botox is not a new treatment for facial wrinkles and deep creases and frown lines. Botox and the other neuro-blockers (Dysport and Xeomin) have been around for many years.  The injection of Botox is safe and effective treatment for wrinkles of the face. Our surgeons inject Botox into the facial wrinkle and the underlying muscle is paralyzed. It lasts for three to four months. This procedure can be done over your lunch break.
